Last updated: [[EFFECTIVE DATE — set at launch]]
The short version: we hand-make your gear to order, so check your spelling and your proof before you approve it. Only send us artwork you have the right to use. Our gear carries a lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and craftsmanship — the details live in our Returns & Warranty policy. If anything is unclear, just ask us — we read every message.
1. Who we are
[[MIKE P: confirm exact legal entity name, e.g. "JP Custom Leatherworks LLC"]] ("JP Custom Leatherworks," "we," "us") operates this website and sells handcrafted leather goods from 108 Lacey Rd, STE 12, Whiting, NJ 08759. You can reach us at [[MIKE P: confirm customer-service email address]] or (609) 367-2479.
2. Agreeing to these terms
By using this site or placing an order, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy, Shipping Policy, and Returns & Warranty policy, which are part of these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or place an order.
3. Orders
Your order is an offer to buy. We accept it when we send you an order confirmation email. We may decline or cancel an order — for example, because of a pricing or listing error, suspected fraud, artwork we cannot reproduce (see Section 5), or a product we can no longer make. If we cancel an order you have already paid for and we have not started work on it, we will refund you in full.
Prices, options, and availability can change at any time before we accept your order. If we discover a clear pricing error after acceptance, we will contact you with the correct price and you can either pay the difference or cancel for a full refund.
4. Made-to-order gear and lead times
Most of our gear is cut, stamped, stitched, and finished by hand after you order it. The current estimated lead time for each product is shown on its product page and in your order confirmation. Lead times are estimates, not promises of a delivery date — but if your order will be materially delayed beyond the estimate we gave you, we will notify you, and you may cancel any item we have not started for a full refund of that item.
Because custom work starts soon after you order, changes or cancellations to a custom item are only possible before we begin work on it. Contact us as soon as possible and we will tell you where your order stands.
5. Custom orders, personalization, and your artwork
When you order personalized or custom gear — names, numbers, department logos, custom stamps, or uploaded artwork — the following applies:
- You are responsible for what you submit. Double-check spelling, numbers, colors, and options. Once you approve a proof (or, for orders without a proof, once you place the order), we make exactly what you approved, and mistakes in what you submitted are not covered by our guarantee.
- Only send artwork you have the right to use. By submitting a logo, image, or design, you confirm that you own it or have permission to have it reproduced, and that our making the item for you will not infringe anyone's trademark, copyright, or other rights. You agree to cover us (indemnify us) for claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs that result from artwork you submitted.
- We can say no. We may decline any artwork or text — including material we believe is infringing, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate — and refund any payment for work not started.
- Your artwork stays yours. You keep all rights to artwork you submit. You give us a limited license to use it solely to make your order (including proofs and internal records).
- Photos of finished work. We are proud of what leaves the bench and sometimes photograph finished pieces for our website and social media. If you would rather we not show yours, tell us when you order — or ask us later and we will take it down.
6. Payment and sales tax
Payment is collected at checkout by our third-party payment processor. We never see or store your full card number. Orders shipped to New Jersey are charged New Jersey sales tax. Qualifying tax-exempt organizations (such as fire departments) can order tax-free by providing a valid exemption certificate (NJ Form ST-5) — contact us to set that up before ordering.
7. Shipping
Shipping methods, costs, and the scope of our free standard shipping offer are described in our Shipping Policy. Delivery dates depend on the carrier once your order ships; we are not responsible for carrier delays, but we will always help you track down a package.
8. Returns and the Lifetime Guarantee
Our Returns & Warranty policy explains what the Lifetime Guarantee covers (defects in materials and craftsmanship), what it does not (misuse, damage, normal wear and patina), and how returns work — including the limits on returning personalized and custom-made items. That policy is the complete statement of our product warranty. To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Some states do not allow limits on implied warranties, so this may not fully apply to you; this warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary from state to state.
9. Safety notice — read this if you work the job
[[PENDING MIKE P: confirm certification status before launch. Draft below assumes the gear is NOT certified PPE.]]
Our products are handcrafted leather equipment accessories. They are not certified personal protective equipment and are not tested or certified to NFPA or other safety standards unless a product page expressly says otherwise. They are not a substitute for compliant PPE, and you are responsible for following your department's rules about what you carry and wear on duty. Inspect your gear regularly and retire anything that shows damage — and remember, if it is our craftsmanship that failed, the guarantee has you covered.
10. Gift certificates
Gift certificates are governed by our Gift Certificate Terms. In short: they do not expire and carry no fees.
11. Our content
The content of this site — text, photos, graphics, logos, product designs, and the JP Custom Leatherworks name and bulldog mark — belongs to us or our licensors. You may not copy or use it commercially without our written permission. Please do not misuse the site: no scraping at scale, no attempting to break or bypass its security, no posting unlawful content, and no impersonating us or anyone else.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim relating to a product or to these terms is limited to the amount you paid for the product involved, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages (such as lost profits). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law — including, where applicable, liability for personal injury caused by our negligence. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If something goes wrong, talk to us first — we would much rather fix it than fight about it. Any dispute we cannot resolve informally will be handled exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you and we each consent to venue there.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the current version, and changes apply to orders placed after they are posted. The terms in effect when you placed your order are the ones that apply to it.
